OPEN HEAVENS CONFERENCE 2008
Pastor Sarah shared on stinking thinking. She challenged believers to move in line with God's global agenda, and come out of backyard reasoning. Backyard thinking is all about me, I, us, our church,...simple selfish! Yet global agenda encompasses kingdom business, is cross cultural, inter-racial and is not bound by geographic boundaries. She reiterated that for the gospel to reach all ends of the earth, believers of the 21st century need to be innovative, using their minds to think to transform nations.... It was a great time. Prayer was offered after the preaching and there was a mighty outpour of the presence of God after!
Pastor Colin shared in a number of sessions, establishing a foundation on lessons on revival using Jehoshaphat as an example (2 Kings 17-20). He ministered on characteristics and features of revival as well as the killers of revival and the moves of God. He also took time to ground the ministry on the manifestations of the Glory of God. In this sermon he took time to reflect on the physical, emotional and spiritual manifestations. He gave examples of various manifestations in the word of God such as falling down under the power, bouncing and jumping, being pinned to the floor, dancing in the spirit, crying and weeping, prophetic mime, inability to walk, trances, tongues, etc. It was a long list! He qualified such manifestations through the word of God. He went on to site these manifestations taking place in the most recent church history such as Saint Theresa of Avilla (1515-1582) where it is said people could not speak for days due to the presence of God, John Wesley (1703 - 1791), Methodist founder, where people fell down under God's power, Jonathan Edwards, Peter Cartright, Azusa street revival, as well as the current publicised revival taking place in Lakeland, Florida. He thoroughly explained these through the word of God. Finally, he stated that the church of this century is a candidate for such experiences too. In another sermon, he shared on Keys to encounters with God. In a nutshell, these keys were Seperation, Focus, Sacrifice, Fasting and Prayer and perseverance.
On his last day, Pastor Colin shared on Increasing your capacity. This sermon marked the peak of the conference! His scriptural basis was 1 Kings 4:29-34, using Solomon as a classic example. Apart from being a king, he was a Horticulturist, Botanist, Poet, Marine engineer, animal biologist, creative artist and drama artist. He increased his capacity in a way beyond imagination. He spoke of the 'Ellen Syndrome', a practical example of someone he had met when he grew up, failing to expand her capacity. He said some people choke, when God stretches them a bit - with a small blessing, due to a limited capacity. He used practical examples that left believers vowing to extend their capacity.
This conference transformed our lives. We had attendees from inter-state and neighbouring towns. The Open Heavens Conference will remain a yearly event. As Harvest House, we are not only set for tremendous growth, but we are set for great experiences of the God kind not many days from now. Let the revival fire spread! Below are pictures of the Conference.
